derry city council passes motion on Gaza Crisis

Emergency Motion on Gaza
Passed by Derry City Council
Tuesday 6th January 2009

Councillor Gerry MacLochlainn of Sinn Féin

Derry City Council notes the appalling loss of life particularly of children taking place now in Gaza.
We call for an immediate cease-fire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and from all the territories occupied by Israel since 1967 in defiance of the United Nations.
We believe that peace will only be brought to the Middle East on the basis of a full inclusive dialogue between the representatives of the people of Palestine and Israel.
We call on people in Derry to show solidarity with the victims of this aggression by joining the international boycott of Israeli goods so that pressure can be mounted on the Israeli government to respect international law.
Derry City Council resolves to write to the British and Irish Governments and the EU President to express our rejection of Israeli aggression and to call on both governments and the EU to bring diplomatic and economic pressure to bear on Israel until they abandon their current belligerent strategy and withdraw from Gaza and all illegally occupied territory.
We also urge all parties and groups in the region to accept inclusive dialogue and political negotiation as the way forward and for all acts of violence to end immediately.

Hamas rockets at Israel? No better than big firecrackers, barely do damage. HAMAS have no US weaponry to defend themselves like Israel. No tanks, no F-16s no DIME or Phosphorous missiles, no well armed army, &they dont block israel's borders causing starvation, they dont block Israeli ambulance from taking wounded to hospital, they dont crowd families into a house then bomb it, they dont target UN compounds, UN schools and UN Refugee camps. In short Israel has become 21st Century Nazis!

Good to see Derry taking action n Shinn Fein taking position in this grave matter of GENOCIDE being committed by Israeli government CRIMINAL act of baking all the Human Rights n Fourth Geneva Convention agreements of International community but never respected by Israel! the slaughter in gaza is beyond belief. The Israelis have no right to be on the Land of Palestine. Jewish people have a right to a state but it is not Palestine. Peace to all. 1000 palestinian flags were carried on the Bloody Sunday march in Derry. Freedom for Ireland and Palestine
