Personally, I'm tired of reading these negative comments. I mean no disrespect, but I have been to several of these, and if I understand it correctly, the dances are not supposed to be native american powwows. It is similar, but those who disagree with this ceremony believe that the order of the arrow is trying to be exactly like native americans. To put it simply, your arguing, but each side is talking about a slightly different thing.
Got to love all these comments by folks that have attended so many ndn doings.... PowwowJamster, you are 100% correct. Unfortunately, what you have is an organization (order of the arrow) that has created its own subculture which truely believes that just because you sew some yarn on a pair of pants, you are ndn dancing. Event those that truely put hours into it, learn the same bad habits from others bad habits. Wahissa would do well to take a lesson in humility in this fight.
I'm sorry, but this is what will piss native americans off. I am an OA member, grass dancer, and I am also cherokee and I am getting mad at this. At one point there is a grass dancer that does a kart wheel?!? that is a BBBBIIIIGGg NO NO! I under stand that it may be their first time, but that's actually still no excuse. Here is a little advise to anyone that tries to dance for OA, please do some research BEFORE you dance. There are some native americans that will try to help you if you just ask.
I luv canp ravens knob, it rocks. Their drummers and dancers are amazing. I'm on a drum team and drilling learning the dances ( I'm probably gonna do traditional)
