The President makes his nomination for an appointment to the Supreme Court. Elena Kagan will be the youngest justice to serve on the high court if appointed. She will also be the first in over forty years with no prior judicial experience. In her tenure as the Solicitor General, she has been accused of taking such extreme views that none of the nine justices on the court agreed with her opinions. She is well liked by republicans and democrats that she has served with and may be able to have influence over the swing of those in the middle on the court. Opponents of the President's choice say that she will not honor the constitution but will try to legislate from the bench and hand down rulings based on her own personal idealogy. Those who accuse her of this say that Judges roles are to judge objectively based of what the law actually is and the intent to which the writers of those laws put in place to begin with. Furthermore, they cite, the only time a judge should deviate from those laws is when they violate the Constitution of the United States which is the rule of law in our land as defined by the framers some 233 years ago.
