The 2011 Minneaplis Trombone Choir concert opened with La Mourisque by Tielman (sometimes spelled Tylman) Susato (1510-1570). This setting, based on an arrangement by Greg Furlong, features a quartet of sackbuts (Medieval or Renaissance trombones), contrasted with modern trombones and the tuba-euphonium family.
On sackbut: Jim ten Bensel, alto; Glen Newton and John Kaplan, tenors; and Hans Arlton, bass.

  • I hear sackbuts are a bit difficult to play? Like most Medieval instruments?
