Olcott Bible Church, in Olcott, NY (northern Niagara County) created a program to purchase and install a Central Boiler outdoor wood burning furnace to heat the church facility. We have two oil burning furnaces connected in series to heat a 16,000 square foot facility. With 7 separate heating zones and programmable thermostats, the baseboard heating system is very efficient, but oil costs last summer peaked at $4.21/gallon locally. With an average seasonal consumption of approximately 3,000 gallons, we were looking at $12-15,000 heating for the season. In August, 2008, we embarked on the challenge of raising $20,000 to purchase and install the second biggest boiler manufactured by Centra Boiler. The money was subsequently raised or pledged, and the furnace was ordered soon after Thanksgiving. More explanation in the following installments.
