Tribute to Ashlynn Handy at Otakuthon 2010 Masquerade

A close friend of Ms. Ashlynn Handy, deceased last week, delivers a short speech in her memory at the beginning of the Otakuthon 2010 Masquerade. Otakuthon 2010, the Montreal anime convention, was held from Fri, Aug 13 to Sun, Aug 15, 2010 at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal in Montreal, QC.

The flag he holds is the flag of Alberta, the province where Ashlynn was born and grew up. Otakuthon, a national-level convention, welcomes attendees from all over Canada and the U.S.

Filmed on my Canon Rebel T1i dSLR with EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 lens. Sound is from my T1i's built-in mic. Fade-in/fade-out added in Adobe After Effects CS4.

I was surprised when I saw pictures of a R.I.P. cosplayer, but that announcement was touching.

How did she died, or of what did she died ? What is an accident, a disease, or something else ? Does somebody know ?

@MrJechgo We're still awaiting an official report. According to witnesses, she had a sudden epileptic seizure at the top of a flight of stairs, collapsed and tumbled down the stairs, sustaining multiple heavy injuries to her head. She was brought to hospital, where she never woke up; her brain had suffered so many concussions during the fall that it ceased to function, effectively causing Ashlynn to become brain dead.

That was truly incredible. To have so many people gather for her at a convention and speak so solemnly about her. It sounds like she was a very well loved and insightful girl. I'm a little bit upset that I never met her.
