The Community Navigators for Aboriginals with Disabilities in the Okanagan Program recruits and trains aboriginal peers and Elders to provide peer support services to aboriginals with disabilities who reside on reserves. Community Navigators help direct their peers to available programming and services in the community.

The program operates on the premise that:

- The Community Navigator provides a role model
- Help and the service provider
- The Community Navigator can draw on a wide range of unique experiences which cannot be observed by anyone else

What is a Navigator?

The Navigator program is a peer mentor training course. Navigators are people with disabilities who are trained to help others with disabilities:

- Achieve goals for quality of life
- Access employment and training programs and services
- Become more independent
- Increase self-confidence
