Putting gin in a cosmo is just as sacrilegious as putting vodka in a martini.

Considering that the only ingredient in that ENTIRE recipe that is in the present day Cosmopolitan is Cointreau, then yes, I really don't see much similarity there. That's what, 95% different ingredients? Even then it's two dashes of Cointreau versus the present day half ounce (just a slight difference there). I thought you said cosmo recipes were on cranberry juice bottles, not raspberry syrup bottles, whoopsy. Bullshit much?

Lol you're seriously telling me a drink with orange liqueur, lemon, some raspberry for coloring, and a mixable spirit isn't precisely similar to a cosmopolitan, sans vodka? Dear god, there's no hope for you.

According to your source the only historically backed Cosmopolitan recipe from 1930s is as follows:

    Jigger Gordons Gin

    2 Dashes Cointreau

    Juice of one Lemon

    Teaspoon Raspberry (syrup)

Obviously nothing remotely similar to the Cosmopolitan. But go ahead find me an identical recipe with gin being the only difference. I can't wait, I enjoy watching you struggle.

Even though they have the exact same ingredients except for the base spirit. Argue semantics though, it's cute.

I like how you ignore the last part of your "counterargument," "but with gin rather than vodka." That's the only difference. Come on kiddo.

I googled your source, turns out it's NOT a cosmopolitan "The Cosmopolitan is often credited to Cheryl Cook in South Beach, Maimi, in either 1985, or 1986. Toby Cecchini is credited with changing the rose's lime cordial to Fresh Lime Juice, and standardising the Triple Sec as Cointreau. However, a similar recipe for a cocktail called the Cosmopolitan can be found as early as 1933, but with gin rather than vodka." Operative word being "SIMILAR" not the same. You gave it a good go, nice try.

You're full of shit, vodka was ALWAYS the base spirit of the cosmo. Even if you were correct, the cosmo was invented in the 70s, so your assertion would imply that they didn't start using vodka in Cosmos until 2010. Questions?
