Germany's Merkel Demands Iranian Election Recount

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is demanding a recount of Irans recent election. Merkel becomes the first leader of a major Western power to publicly demand a recount.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is urging the Iranian leadership to allow peaceful protests and recount votes cast in its disputed election.

Germany stands behind the people and peaceful demonstrators in Iran who want to make use of their freedom of speech and who want to gather peacefully.

Merkel called on Irans leaders to stop using violence against demonstrators, release detained opposition members, and allow free media reporting. Merkel also said Iran could earn trust from the international community by inviting observers to oversee a vote recount.

I believe doubts could easily be eliminated by repeating the vote recounting to make it transparent, if necessary with international observers. Trust could then be restored.
