they can eat without the claws but catching and accessing food would be real hard (pretty much stuck scavenging). It's pretty much just tossing em back as easy food for something else.
A local fisherman gave me some crab claws from this type of crab and I wouldn't eat them until I figured out what type of crab it was. (TOOK ME FOREVER, looking for a "Rooster Crab", or "Tiger Striped Crab", or "Peek-a-boo Crab"....all misleading me! THANK YOU!! This is most interesting. When fisherman take a claw and throw it back. Can the crab still eat?
