This Chicago landmark, designed by a disciple of Jens Jensen, was recently restored in a manner that, to my view, isn't an improvement. Yes, the non-native species (including the goldfish) are gone, but some of those species were mature trees that made this a lovely, secluded spot with a dense tree canopy. It's now more open, and less alluring.
This was one of those misguided efforts to return the spot to "nativei species" only, meaning that the goldfish and the trees had to go to meet that objective.
Sad that some chasingi an abstraction reduces the beauty, utility and joy of the venue.

wow, true. they got rid of the goldfish and the trees? the big trees? this is a place that was always a haven, you could go there and just sit and sit and sit, and it was Pleasant. i can't imagine they would want to deduce it. thank you for showing this and talking about it.
