Me and Moof summit Red Cone on 9/25/7.

"Red Cone Trail is a 7 rated trail that has a 9 rated scare factor if you do not have extreme confidence in your driving and equipment.

The first part of the trail contains a few fairly rocky sections and weaves through some narrow switch backs in a heavily treed area. When you get above the tree line you see the part of the trail that everyone talks about a shelf road across the top of a ridge well above tree line." (see bibliography)

  • I want people to know, this trail CAN be done with a stock Cherokee or four runner. Get on out there and be patient and careful and have some fun! tread lightly

  • Those are stock vehicles in the vid. The 4Runner is a TRD and the Taco is not.

  • My favorite mountain!

  • Awesome video! The 2nd time I wheeled Red Cone we got up to the summit, looked over edge at the descent and it was completely covered in snow! Summer had not made it to the back side of the mountain yet. But there's no turning back at that point! We all made it down safely, but needless to say, I have not wheeled Red Cone since! The view truely is amazing, altho all I remember is trying not to piss myself! :)

  • yikes. bad advice from a neophite. expect body damage on the best day!

the forest before the trail will eat full size vehicles! the trail is one way for a reason. the descent can be very very dangerous.

THIS IS A TRAIL YOU CAN LOSE YOUR LIFE ON.

  • Dear elliesdad5280, I am in the process of filming for YouTube my own sequal to Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining," and would like to know if I may use a piece of this video. Your acknowledgements would appear in the credits.

  • Right on...Robin Trower

  • hell yeah! i just discovered this trail today, me and 2 friends checked it out. what a find. this is an amazing trail . 360 views of the rockies. and yeah the hill down that ridge is quite unnerving for sure

  • Thank you for posting this video. I was born and raised in the Rockies of Colorado (Vail Valley) and every time I want to get a glimpse of my home state I watch this video. And it reminds of why, as a kid, I would get out of the jeep and walk the steep ascents and descents such as this (I was 8). Black Bear Pass is another road where the scenery is lovely and the road unnerving. Peace...

  • More descents and less "music" would have been nice.

  • That was a waste. I saw 4 seconds of you actually descending red cone. Otherwise, I listened to Robin Trower and saw some mountain goats and scenery. Give everyone else the real sensation of the descent. That's the kick in the seat of the pants. : )
