This was the closing night, September 4th, 2011 at the Carmel Valley Theatre, Carmel CA. I saw the night before with my parents, with a full ensemble, and decided I needed to come back the next day by myself. Hard to believe Mr. Glass is 74 years old, go Philip.
This video is dedicated to the woman I was dating back in 1985 who suggested we drop acid and watch a movie called Koyaanisqatsi. I've never been the same since. I'm still in love with that woman to this day.

I strongly urge anyone and everyone to watch Philip Glass' masterpiece Koyaanisqatsi, I saw it performed live by Philip with the movie behind him 10 years ago, it was just as mindblowing then. WARNING - PREPARE TO BE DISTURBED:

part 1/8 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQsoMI...
part 2/8 : This is cloudscape with the music of Autechre, just as good in my opinion but original movie, not original music. No version of cloudscape with original music on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kos1Nb... / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5pxmW...

It's really funny to me the extent people will go to invalidate or lessen someone else's experience. You can explain all you want why Glass' music is inferior, simplistic, repetitive, meaningless, why myself and anyone else who has enjoyed it has been "duped" or fooled into its importance. At the end of the day your opinion remains inconsequential to me and I am going to continue to enjoy this music deeply on a regular basis just as I have for close to a decade since I first heard it...

IT'S AMAZING THAT AT THE AGE OF 70, THE GREAT COMPOSER, CAN PLAY HIS WONDERFUL AND MERMEREZING WORK.

GLASS THE GREATEST COMPOSER OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE XX CENTURY!.

Perhaps. It may by simply a case that he gets both too much and too little credit.

Nice Ad Hominem. Very original. Glass is good in the same way De Stijl painting (maybe you have heard of it?) is good. He subtracts most of musical technique and reduces it to meditations on harmony and a few other things. In the same way pop music reduces music to rhythm and melody and timbre of voice. I dont denigrate Glass's wide public appeal. I just dont think it should be placed on a pedestal. There are many other more deserving composers. Salonen comes to mind.

Haha your high opinion of contemporary pop music is your own.

Let me ask you, when was your last album released? Your last opera? Your last soundtrack? Your last sold out public performance? Last tour?

The fact that Glass gets railed on for being successful in a society that does not value or appreciate art or contemporary music shows the lack of depth and character of those attacking him. His behavior and choices should be modeled by composers, not be a target of ridicule and criticism.

Which makes it little different in artistry than most of todays pop music. Except Glass' music masquerades as art music.

††† Disparaging beauty is unsurprising from mankind who embraced burning virgins alive, Colosseum Bloodsport & hanging slaves as normative. Man prefers torture & destruction of billions of animals for taste over veganism, careless of factory farm agony & earth destruction. Have you googled Vivisection?

Jesus was right: many men are vomit wolfing dogs & ignorant swine for whom pearls are not fit. Bashers of light & deniers of life will rot in the gloomy waterless dungeons of Hell.
