I was taught to sing gregorian music by Paul Koch, and his son and I were in the same class at St. Paul Cathedral grade school. Those were wonderful times with his music. He had a great deal to do with my early love affair with the Catholic Faith. Ann Hyde
I sang in the St. Paul Cathedral Choir when Paul Koch was the organist and director. The music program was extraordinary and we had nearly 80 voices. We sang Anerio, Palestrina, Victoria, Mozart, Schubert to name a few. Now that beautiful music just sits on the shelves and collects dust. Why there can't be a better blend of old and new is beyond me.. Father Chepponis writes some of the better modern music. But, why can't we hear the great music from our past at Mass...like in Europe? It's sad.
I did once meet the great Paul Koch! He was my hero when I was a kid. His musicianship is still not appreciated as much as it should be. He was a profound musician and sweet soul. I was actually at Mass in the awesome Saint Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh in July 1999 when his death was announced at the very end of the service. I went to his funeral the following Wednesday. What a great, dear man.
Um No... I'm only like 14 and when i played it i was only 12 so thats when don fellows was the organist... well he still is but like a year later my organ teacher became the assoiciate organist so now its kinda hard to get organ lessons because he's so busy... But the got the whole organ taken apart and cleaned and refirbished... i haven't played it yet but the pictures are amazing it look brand new... Taylor and boody organ builders did it... and wow wat a job!

Actually, this isn't Chepponis' Festival Alleluia, but instead one of his others.

Did you ever meet my uncle, Paul Koch?
He was organist for many years.
Funny and much fun.
I palyed Bach on the organ. Should have tried Reger.
Fantastic acoustics.
Anyone know organist J. William Herndon, Jr.?
Thank you.
