Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan was a renowned classical Urdu and Persian poet of the subcontinent. Most notably, he wrote several ghazals during his life, which have since been interpreted and sung in many different ways by different people. He is considered to be the most dominating poet of the Urdu language.

The Hindi-Urdu controversy arose in 1867 when the British government prepared to accept the demand of the Hindu communities of the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) and Bihar to change the Perso-Arabic script of the official language to Devanagari and adopt Hindi as the second official language on demand of Hindu radicals. Muslim politician Sir Syed Ahmed Khan became the most vocal opponent of this change .

Guys, stop bickering. Just enjoy the sheer beauty of Urdu. I am a south indian who grew up in Delhi and learnt a little urdu from bollywood movies. I think Ghalib's poetry is incomparable. Urdu is a product of assimilation of 2 different cultures. Celebrate that.
