Listen closely to the Narrator's Voice (A.K.A. the kids voice as an adult) and to the Conductor's voice, they're the same. This implies that the Conductor is him from the future coming back in time.

lol, I didn't know the voice of the boy was Josh Hutcherson until a few days ago XD I looooooooooove this movie!!

@NBB65 -The reason is because Tom Hanks was hired to not only be the actor who "played" the boy (motion-capture pattern), but, he was also considered to be voice actor for the boy.

But, when the producers realized that his voice didn't sound the way they wanted it to, they hired Daryl Sabrara (of "Spy Kids" fame) to voice the boy.
