I'm so happy gapcast is doing what it's doing. There is such a strong media bias toward doom and gloom, and you guys repeatedly show that doom and gloom is not warranted.
And you do it in such an entertaining way. I feel like I'm listening to an exciting horse race every time Hans Rosling talks. And it is exciting, far more exciting than any horse race, because this is us, all getting better (and hopefully soon Africa as well).
As for Singapore, there is a goverment policy in limiting numbers of child per family. It may contribute for the low mortality for child because majority of them have the access to medical.
However, they have problem now when Singapore realised that the old people is more that the young ones.
you are so right. the same example can be seen in South Africa. when the white population provided good food production and hospitals there, the black population have basically 10 folded since the beginning of the 1900 if i remember correctly or if it was even more recently. now the country is almost exclusively black
I wonder. The reduction in child mortality in poorer countries is not really their achievement, but the achievement of the industrialised countries, which both research and produce the technology that can bring it about. So reducing child mortality, with their help, is relatively easy. It's harder to handle the explosive population growth that resutls.

Isn't there a time-period bias in these comparisons?
