As the poster said, Novell sell service and hardware (now with Sun), they don't "sell Linux".
What they also do is employ a lot of Open Source contributors to keep doing what they do best.
If your looking for a company to compare to Microsoft, look more toward Apple with their closed standards and DRM integration.

Thanks for the comment. It might help you to consider that we are using Open Source/Linux in the manner allowed for by the GPL, as are other companies based on Open Source software, and as a side result funding a great deal of development. Just a thought.
