'safetykleen' could start by looking at the safety of its vehicles on the road. As the sad statistics amply demonstrate, lorries need to be especially careful when passing bicycles. This pass was much too close. The driver did not appear to appreciate being distracted from the ipod that he was listening to through headphones when I told him so.
UPDATE 13th May. The company has had its attention drawn to this driving both by me and the Met Police Roadsafe team. It has declined to state what, if any, internal action has been taken on grounds of confidentiality. The comments from the driver below suggest that he does not understand what he has done wrong.

  • Jessica, I am sure I am not alone in becoming weary of your oft repeated but wholly unexplained assertions that I (the cyclist) was doing something wrong. I am loath to censor any point of view, however eccentric, but if you cannot specify something in your next post in support of your vague allegations, I will block further comment from you.

  • I won't respond to some of the sillier comments made here but in respect of privacy I do take seriously a right to privacy. However that right (and indeed your livelihood) is very comprehensively trumped by the public interest in reducing the toll of death and injury on the roads. If you wish to retain your privacy (and your job) do not pass within a couple of feet of a vulnerable road user. I film in order to making a contribution to making the world a better place. My hobby is cycling.

  • Jessica101, perhaps you would be good enough to identify which part of the Highway Code you believe prohibits (or discourages) crossing a dotted line to overtake?

  • You are caught on film driving like a twat whilst listening to Jedward on your Ipod. Do you:

    1?

Accept your employer's warning and promise to behave?

    Or

    2/

Spam Youtube with made-up laws the cyclist is supposed to have broken and whine and snivel about how it's all soooo unfair?

  • its obvious you did something wrong and i have allready explainrd that, so next time get the persons permission to put it on youtube!

  • @jessica101here Jessica you need to stop babbling out nonsense. Just because you say something (repeatedly at that) it doesnt make it true. Any idiot can take what we've said and cross-reference it with the highway code on directgov. Or cross reference with OPSI to check the laws.

You're bordering on libel here, and you should be aware of that.

  • @jessica101here I have a challenge for you - why not join me for a ride in Central London? We can hire Boris Bikes for a few miles, we'll ride at your speed, and we'll see how well you do in London traffic. Too dangerous? Not enough courage? Hmmmm, perhaps you realise there are more drivers out there like Mr UnsafetyKleen Robbie that need their behaviour on the roads altering?

    It's a genuine challenge though.

  • @jessica101here Going purely by your posts, it seems to me that the cyclists here all have a much better understanding of the highway code than you do. I'll bet this is the first time you've even looked in the highway code since you took your test.

Care to remind us how rule 51, relating hiviz for horses and horse riders relates to this video?

  • @jessica101here Do you really think all cyclists are the same? Perhaps you feel that "we" cyclists think all motorists are the same? The truth is rather different - the bullying and general careless behaviour from motorists is exactly why so many of us film whilst we ride. It's certainly true that there are bad cyclists around also, but I am not responsible for them, just as when I drive I'm not responsible for this piece of bad driving from the UnsafetyKleen driver.

  • @CyclingMikey I suggest you refrain from trying to make others look bad until the videos from the cyclist's perspective show them behaving properly too. Cyclists in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!

  • @CyclingMikey Try reading the highway code properly. He did break the rules, several times. Your lack of knowledge of cycling rules just shows how ignorant in general cyclists are, it obviously reflects in cycling behaviour too. You'd think someone with no vehicular protection around them would be more aware of their safety and what they should be doing rather than just criticizing others really.

  • @jessica101here More lies? It's very obvious that the SafetyKleen van driver came well within arm's reach, i.e. dangerously closely, and the next motorist left the same sort of room as shown in the picture in rule 163 of the highway code. Rather different.

That picture is quite good - it should help you and the safetykleen driver, who I imagine you know personally, to understand how to overtake cyclists. Not the sharpest tool in the box, are you?

  • @jessica101here Remind me, how does mentioning rules of the highway code involving hiviz for horse riders have anything to do with this video? It might have a little more to tell us about your intelligence and reading level though, yes?

I don't see this cyclist breaking any of the rules in the highway code, only your driver.
