The rules of compettiton dance are clear of the subject of underwear (from memory it is something like- "underwear must be worn..dark or toning with the kilt, but never white")

Men don't wear anything beneath their kilts. But when training and performing highland dance, wouldn't it be better for guys to wear a dance belt, like male ballet dancers and figure skaters do for supporting their dangling parts? The sporran rises and falls with each high jump and bangs into the front of the dancer's groin... might that be a bit uncomfortable?

@spndx66 You can clearly see that he is wearing dance shoes and kilt hose beneath his kilt.
