A short clip from Mission Impossible, which is rcv'd via a Magnavox DTV converter, then relayed via a small UHF transmitter to the TV which picks it up on rabbit ears. The pixelating of the picture is from the DTV tuner.

  • Very good color quality! Looks like the CRT is still in good shape.

  • It still needs some work, but at least it's watchable now. Vert. wouldn't lock, HOT was very weak, and as you can see the picture isn't centered. (Since I shot this, the horiz. has been adjusted to center the picture, but I suspect the original 6BK4 is going south on it.) Now just have to level it, change a few caps, do the covergence and clean the tuner. The CRT is an RCA Colorama rebuild from 1970. Thanks for the nice comment. I enjoy your videos too!

  • Where did you come up with the UHF transmitter? Did you build it from plans? A Kit? Does someone sell them ready made? Are there small VHF transmitters as well? I'm guessing that this is a FCC chapter 15 style unit with limited range?

  • The TVs tube is very round for it's age.

My last VHF black and white TV had squarer corners than this.

It was new some when in the 60's, so about the same age.

  • Did you upload this on March 07, 2008? If so, why did you have to use a DTV converter. Couldn't you have just pulled the signal from over the air for an analog set back then?

  • Its a shame so many of these old boat anchors went to the dump after they broke down or the pic tube go dim. they were a lot easier to work on than newer stuff which is now disposable.

  • how many tubes does this tv use?

  • use to have a roundie RCA, glad there are people out there saving em, was when color TV was an event

  • That is a nice TV! The picture looks good. I almost said that this must be one of the first color TV's, but then I read the comment below. Thats the first time I saw a round color picture tube, though!

  • A freind had that same Sylvania in a blackish metal cabinet with screw on legs when I was a kid and I thought it was very interesting because of the round screen and the huge chassis inside. I expect that set is extremely rare. Looks like a great television set! A quality value from Sylvania!
