Jon Hamm's voice in this voice is different from others. Have you modified it?

The clip isn't edited; without the original multi-channel track, no one could make such an edit. It's possible that youtube has warped the sound, it's even possible that the process of getting it from the TV stream to the uploaded avi altered the sound, but this wasn't edited and that is Don Draper's voice.

Good TV, especially with a buildup as well done as this, absolutely must make you cry. Or laugh, or hold your breath until you turn blue, or jump in fright, or even run screaming from the room. But I know what you mean, how can they reach out from behind the camera and pull so hard on your heart? Thanks for the comment.

It's sped up slightly, if anyone's wondering why it sounds strange.

I suspect that during your editing process, somewhere along the way, you ran the video/audio clip through a low bandwidth bottleneck that changed the tone of the original audio - many of the free video editors have such default settings even though they are capable of doing more. For my video, I changed the default settings to make sure that I was sampling at the original 48000 sampling rate.

To do my video, I ripped the original DVD with AnyDVD, which makes an exact copy of the original video/audio. The audio of the VOB file was in a very high end 6-channel Dolby AC3 at 48000 sampling and 448 kbps bitrate. The original video is MPG2, about 3.5 Mbps, 29.97 fps. I had to search around to find a video editor/converter that could handle the AC3 audio - many commercial video editors don't recognize it! Ultimately used Format Factory and AVIdemux to edit the VOB file.

I just posted another, cleaner, and more complete version of this scene.

Search for it on YouTube, under my videos, or the title "The Carousel".

You can see and hear the difference.

So it's your video editing techniques.
