@RoninAvenger Your question is quite understandable. The differences between the many styles and versions of Gagaku are very subtle and require close study and listening. A good beginning for study are the 5 videos uploaded by davemacdo-- Gagaku: The Court Music of Japan, presented by Dr. William Malm.
