Yeah, the announcement wasn't made until later in the weekend and in fact, it was a mistake that a video ban was announced. I am the CJ event producer and I don't mind videotaping being done during the evening dances at all and I was really bummed to find out after the fact that the announcement was made to not allow videotaping. The confusion was that we don't allow videotaping during the JS show and the workshops since it is distracting. I was tending to a newborn and didn't know til after.
Interesting. Did you find this video by searching "Camp Jitterbug 2008?" Why are you even searching for it and/or watching it if you want to "support the dance event?"
Maybe some of us still think that Lindy Hop shouldn't be 100% commercialized. I don't see why we should necessarily have to wait 4 months and pay $50 to see the contests again. I'm sure Tonya won't go broke by having these grainy videos put on YouTube. Relax.
This is from the first night, before there was an announcement not to take videos. I did not get any footage of other events because we were asked not to. This one is probably more interesting to the people in the video than anyone else. To me it's not really a question of supporting the event, but supporting professional videography at the expense of openness (it would cost the event nothing to skip the professional video person). And I'm not sure where I stand on that yet.
