Back in the eighteenth century, Thomas Jefferson's polictical party was called the democratic-republicans, and they wanted LESS government (the opposite of the democrats and republicans who want a BIGGER government today). Sorry about that correction I just thought that Jefferson's party was better than the corrupted, tyrannical main parties today. Again, sorry. :P

We are just as un-free as we were 40 years ago - it's just that we now know , 40 years later, that we were never free all along - we just thought we were !

@kakashifan09 Actually, Jefferson didn't call his party that at all. He referred to himself as a 'Republican' without using the term 'Democrat.' Actually, 'Democrat' was something that was associated with the French Revolution, a very very bad thing, and something any good and honest U.S. Statesman would want to be associated with. Thus, Jefferson's opponents began calling his party the 'Democratic-Republicans' as a way of slandering the Governor/President. Its true!

Actually, Jefferson was not fond of the term "Democrat." You see, if you can get past the propaganda that is taught in school, you will learn that the term "Democrat" was something coined by Jefferson's political opponents in order to relate him to the violent revolution in France. Jefferson himself made the statement that he would prefer not to be called a "Democrat." He also was very clear in his writings and statements that he was a "Republican." He did establish a "Republic." Thanks.

Hmmmm. Interesting but I think we can all say that No. We are not as free as we were 200 years ago. We have to many restrictions, taxes and lawyers. Our politicians represent themselves and forget about the real Americans.
This is why I couldn't live in America. Its so full of contridictions. You support freedom of the press... but get annoyed when the press uses this freedom to push its own preferences on the population.
You support free and fair elections... but complain when the candidate that you wanted to win wasn't as popular as another.
America has wonderful ideals, but in practise they actually work against those who support them?
