I just came back from Detroit, where I visited the Motown museum. It's so sad to see Smokey's reaction to Sam's death; Smokey a bonafied singing and songwriting legend, expressing true sadness over the loss of another singing and songwriting legend...it kind of made me tear up...

@1718lafayette You've probably found it by now, but just incase you haven't - 'Pilgrim of Sorrow'

Nice to see the BBC's Harry Carpenter halfway through that clip.
He died earlier this year, I'm sure he's up there with Sam now. :)
Now you know just how brilliant of THE ARTIST Sam Cooke was/is by just hearin the heartfelt griefs of Smokey Robinson and James Brown. When artists of their caliber embrace Sam's undyin legacy... how can we not? Sam Cooke was indeed "The Inventor of Soul", but there was also anotha thing he spear-headed as well... that Afro-centric pride that eluded us since arrival here, that conscientious music that would inspire countless legends like Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, & Johnnie Taylor. RIP Sam.
