Great stuff, Na Fianna. We (Denver) hosted your ladies football squad last summer I believe. If ya don't mind, I'll be postin a video response we ourselves have put together. Now I'm sure I'll get the Irish traditionalists who say we can't play worth a shite, but it's better than not playin at all! Our Denver squad at last year's NAGAA championship fielded a camogie team, ladies football, jr C hurlin and jr B hurling.
Most American hurling clubs compete at the Junior club level.Much thanks to the Irish fellas bringing the sport to the States. There is no comparison to the Senior teams of Ireland obviously, but the sportsmanship and respect is taught all the same, the GAA has complete control over the sport so there is no way for Americans to 'ruin' it as mentioned before.Keep an eye out for collegiate teams forming in California and Washington State, hurling is becoming increasingly popular in the states!
Most American GAA teams have a pretty even split of about half Irish, half American. Some teams even 1/3 Irish and 2/3 American. The Irish members clearly carry the team athletically and in a coaching role. Give it time, hurling has only just begun to make it onto college campuses, soon it will be available to children and from there the talent grows. The GAA is doing an amazing job with developing Irish-American talent. We may see an American Senior team Play an Irish Senior team in our lifetime.
i dont think there are very many americans who play senior now but there is an upcoming generation who are playing hurling and maybe a few will be good enough to play senior
that ended up a close enough match. I enjoyed it
