SORRY (I'm not) - Blues MAMA Original - Lyrics Below -

okay, I lied -- but not intentionally. I know I said I wasn't going to be recording or uploading anything for a while after the surgery, but I recorded this song because things just fell into place -- and it was so much easier to show you than tell you about what was happening with my voice since the surgery.

Yes, you will be surprised -- I actually do have a (mezzo) soprano range. It's still really weak, and not exactly under my control completely yet -- BUT --- It works! It's been shut down due to nerve (recurrent laryngeal nerve) compression to that part of the vocal cord for the better part of three YEARS!!! I won't pretend that it was easy to record - I had to pause the recording several times to drink water and rest the voice...but dammit, it still works!!!! So miraculously without voice therapy, this is what it sounds like.

Seriously, this is the last thing I'll be singing for a little while. I may do some more Native American Flute Medicine music -- I owe a few of the Creator's critters a shout out! =o)

My most sincere gratitude to everyone who sent good thoughts and positive energy my way during the surgery. I remain your humble minstrel.

Namaste,
Raven

Jarrod Hines -- our dear friend and Kindred Guitarist shares the writing credit for the music with Ty. I'd adopt him if I thought his mother wouldn't hunt me down...LOL No really, she's a very nice lady! Lyrics are mine.

SORRY (I'm Not) [lyrics]

Well, everyone has got to play some role
in this cosmic whole...
Once I believed that mine
was the part of the tragic heroine...
Little black sheep, lost and praying
for her soul to keep...
Till the morning sets her free -
Living, this life vicariously--
Weaned on Shakespeare
and taught to fly by Magritte.
You might think
I've had a long losing streak
But the fact is
I just haven't hit my peak -
I'm still in the game,
With a little luck and a little aim-
I just might WIN it, yet
In any case I won't waste time
waste time on regret
All my stories are true --
believe that I'd never lie to you,
Every word I speak
is a hard earned gain -
In every lesson,
there's a little pain
Lying under a skylight
In the night rain with you...
You can't take
what's freely given,
this, I gave to you...
and I'm not sorry...
Now you know what it's like
to be loved...To be loved...
for being you...
Just a little light we helped
shine on the truth --
We made our world a brighter place.
Put a smile back on your face,
then slipped away without a trace
And I'm not sorry...
I'm not sorry for giving you proof,
For letting go with you
Judge me not,
Cause I won't ever be,
cause I won't ever be...
sorry...sorry...

  • lovely performance. Great poetry... very strong & positive. You folks got a real good mix on this one.

  • Thanks Dan - it's really a lovely song - but my voice wasn't strong or lithe enough at this point to really do it justice. This was an experiment more than anything else. I was just so glad to know that this part of my voice isn't "gone forever" - I don't think I appreciated it as much as when I lost it - ain't that always the way? =o)
