From WBAL Baltimore, a batch of affiliate switch promos with the CBS stars in 1981. WKRP, Louise Jefferson, the animal from Lou Grant, Mel from Alice, Dan Rather and Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazzard are all excited about moving on up to TV 11! Also included is a Norm Lewis weather promo with a terrific head of hair!

  • The Norm Lewis promo at 1:00 is very similar to ones that WOR-TV New York were running around the same time for their news, with the "as a child" profiles they would have for the various newscasters at the time.

Which CBS show/character did the guy from the promo from 1:30-2:00 appear in?

  • @DanZero77 Thats the animal, the newspaper photog from Lou Grant

  • All of those CBS shows from 1981 went into syndication.CBS was really good back in the day.I also noticed that Boss Hogg wears the same suit the John Travolta wore in Saturday Night Fever. But it looked better on John.

  • Why did they switch?

  • @newscaster13 And the moral of that story: it's always best to return to your roots.

  • On the video on 0:41 that playground tower thing I used to climb that when I was a kid. I remember I got a big splinter in my hand because of that thing. How did WBAL get them A List actors and actresses at the time to do their promos?

  • That is Ray Bennett with Vic Tayback

  • Who's the dude with Vic Tayback (Mel from "Alice")?

  • Awesome.

  • CBS bought rival WJZ in 1995, and at the same time, WBAL came crawling back to NBC (with Tom Brokaw).

  • @eyeontv played by Daryl Anderson
