In response to poster "egkg75" : Even if the deer is hit in the body, if cleaned quickly and correctly much of the meat can be salvaged. It is easy to determine bad meat on the carcass once it is cleaned out. If the intestines were broken inside it will need to be washed out with water. Don't butcher it on the back of a pickup truck. Hang the deer up by the legs. If it is bad clotted meat cut it out. Even with deer that were hit pretty hard, I have always gotten more than 50% of the meat.

Its too bad this guy didn't bring a friend to help. I also don't approve of taking the carcass out of somone's front yard without first asking permission. Nice size deer. If the homeowner had any land I would have asked If I could gut the deer out on their property and leave the entrails a good distance away from the house. I think people that stop to get the antlers or the head off of a fresh killed deer - i.e user "allhunting" are a stain on the rest of the responsible sportsmen out there.

I don't see why people get so bent out of shape over eating roadkill. If you don't hunt or have never butchered an animal than you should probably not start collecting roadkill. Unless you are a vegan you should not be offended by this practice. I've cleaned many deer - roadkill and hunted deer - quite possibly safer to eat than a some of the foods at the supermarket aslong as it is gutted out quickly after it is killed. I am not an uneducated redneck, contrary to what many of you may think.

instructions for getting deer head off road kill: step one get a truck and another person, one person gets droped off in thedark with a saw and driver drives away, next cut off deer head and have driver pick you up. trust me it works just great when there is houses around or a highway
