It sucks sooo much.Domesticated cats are the reason why millions of birds die per year. Cats need to be kept indoors at all times!

@epicevie1 No it's not a dove, it's a "Common Wood Pigeon" (you can Google it). It had fallen off the nest and was getting attacked by a cat ~ we chased the cat away and got the bird into a rescue place within an hour. This rescue place looks after wild animals and they are very professional. However, regardless of the immediate help the pigeon didn't survive the cat attack.

Aww what a shame. Cat attacks are often the kiss of death on a bird because of the cat saliva and the backteria on the claws, both high;ly toxic to a bird. I like to administer a double dose of baytril antibiotic as soon as possible, then keep up with the regular dose over the next 5 days if the bird gets over the first vital 24 hours. Bless you for trying and for getting the little victim medical help as fast as you did. There will be no dangers, only peace and joy where the bird is now.

@AnnieBirdy Thanks for the post ~ and sorry for the late reply! Unfortunately regardless of the immediate help the baby received, she passed away within 24 hours! The scratches weren't deep, but perhaps it came down to the cat saliva or bacteria ~ or pure shock, you never know! Very sad.
