Why not just build a small robot, to only go around the track?

@samuelsn93 no, but crossing the lane divider to do so as shown is illegal.

@samuelsn93 Nope - while the robot at 2:58 may be too big for the actual rules, it was shown legally removing an opponent's trackball.
