Gregory Peck plays Brigadier General Savage, who is put in charge of a "bad luck" unit to put it into ship-shape.

In this clip, he gives a speech to the unit for the first time.

  • What a load of B.S. this clip is. If you consider yourself dead, chances are you are going to have high casualty rates because of it. "Oh, look. I'm a flying dead man, Mr. Hitler. Come and get me!"

What about the line from Patton - 'no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. "

  • @DigitalGrotto I think your misunderstanding Savage's point. It's not a matter of be suicidal, it's a matter of don't fear death because you think you deserve to be preserved. In like manner, Patton would probably agree with him. The quote you provided was from Patton's speech which emphasized aggressiveness. Patton and Savage dealt with two different matters: Patton dealt with those who may be timid in battle; Savage dealt with people who just wanted to give up on everything.

  • The delay between the video and audio totally ruins it.

  • @rhall4th Life sucks. Then you die.

  • The authors of this marvelous true to life tale of the Eighth Army Air Force bomb group saw stuff like this during their time in the ETO. They created on of the finest film of this time period about and American bomb group in the ETO during WW II. I never tire of seeing this calssic...

  • Great acting by Gregory Peck

  • Due respect and gratitude to both film and those that flew threw the actual hell. Just play and listen to section 1.34-1.55, and consider the hundreds of thousands of men that those words applied to on both sides.

  • @DigitalGrotto Yea. Hurr-durr-durr. You need to get some new material, fool.

  • @thebearclawjones Your head reminds me of an Ikea cabinet; comes empty, ready to assemble but inevitably missing a crucial bolt.

  • I like this alot honestly lol.

  • @DigitalGrotto And your point is what? Are we now sharing our own domestic issues that have absolutely nothing to do with anything? OK, I have one - I just drank the last of my apple juice, poor, poor me: now we're square.

Meanwhile, your stupidity is still tremendous and you've just added "victim mentality" into the mix.

  • @thebearclawjones You're talking to someone who wasn't supposed to live past the age of 14. Up your axe axehole.
