Housing is in crisis in Britain today. Fewer homes have been built on trend under Labour - even before the long, deep recession than under any previous government. Worse still fewer affordable homes were built every year from 1997 to 2008 than under any year of John Major or Margaret Thatcher.
Now Labour wants to simply do more of what has failed to deliver to date with bigger housing targets and even more top-down centralisation. Conservatives believe that this is a busted-flush approach to housing and that a radical new approach is required. This video of the Shadow Housing Minister speaking at a RICS conference in London sets out the Conservative approach to ensuring that more and better homes are built in the future.
