Here are a couple of exercises that have helped me with my fretless playing...I definitely still practice these exercises!!! I always make sure I know the notes I'm playing, say the notes out loud if it helps. Also, exercises that are musical, or that you can incorporate into your playing, will be very beneficial. Play these examples slowly, concentrating on playing in tune, and learn how to make quick shifts to correct bad intonation.

  • another great vid. Going in my favs for sure!. I have on old ebony board J type bass I've been thinking of converting to fretless. Do you have a preference on string type for fretless? Seems to me that flats would be cool, but then a friend of mine said rounds tend to sustain better on fretless.

  • @geetar4yerears Thanks!!! I really like Nickel roundwounds!! They have great tone, are bright, and seem pretty friendly to fretboards!!! Also, great sustain...although alot of that is in your hands!!! Haha!! Thanks again!!

  • I just bought a Fretless bass and I really hope you'll continue these Lessons! This was a great lesson for me!

  • @Dkbass0 Thanks DK. I am working on a new lesson, hopefully it will be up in a few weeks....maybe right before NAMM. Thanks and enjoy the new fretless!!

  • @caesarbass Okay I would like that! And about that last part, I think it's pretty easy to enjoy a new fretless! :)

  • @CanyonTide Thank you!!! I really enjoy shooting the vids and posting them...in reality I just LOVE the bass guitar and love teaching, and am super stoked that people actually watch them and learn from them, and actually enjoy them!!

    Thanks again!!!

  • This is a repost of the lesson I posted a week ago. Better video quality and editing/titles. CanyonTide was kind enough to post this on the old video so I wanted to include it in the new video also.
