  • the one that got him the match ball was so down - hats off to the early celebration on Rodney's part which convinced the referee as well - but u have so many of such incidents in a match like this - well played in every sense of the word & as always - a huge thanx for uploading and sharing this with us squash lovers - thank you

  • @zeyshaan thanks mate ;) This is the first time I have seen this match and Jahangir did look unsettled by the ref and some of the calls, amazing attacking play by Rodney Martin and a awesome match all round.

  • @zeyshaan the ball looked down to me at 13 all in the fourth,it had the look of a ball that hit the tin and then goes dead , what does everyone else think ?

  • A piece of history. Thanks for uploading - you've done a service to the sport.

  • @ShujaKashif Thanks mate ;) I am really pleased with the quality ,looks great for such an old match .

  • what an epic match ;)

  • Despite the poor refereeing calls, can't deny that JK was pressured short tremendously by RM: those drops from back of the court, Martin's signature shots, were reminiscent of the ones he played against JK in the 1987 British Open semi-final, where he unraveled JK's game in the first two games. Surprising then that RM didn't use his short game more often against JK. Or may be he tried but JK was more effective at forcing the long, straight game upon him. Btw, an amazing get by Martin @ 3:29.

  • @mkopittke Sorry but i do not agree with you. After watching to many no lets given let and only let given strokes to Martin, I do not think that the ref was neutral. But this is my opinion and you are free to have your own opinion. Have a nice day :-)

  • @MrSalamAli The ref here in this match was Chas Evans who is from..New Zealand! There is about as much chance of a Kiwi 'cheating' in favor of an Australian as there would be an Indian umpire cheating for a Pakistani in cricket! I was a JK fan but as history suggests..even the best lose! Martin proved his form by beating Jansher 3-0 in the Quarters and Dittmar in the semi's. To beat the numbers 1,2 and 3 in the world in the same event warrants a little more respect.

  • @MrSalamAli Yeah some very disturbing calls by ref. @ 23:38 Jahangir clearly moves out of the way by backing up several steps. Surprising that Jeff Hunt should say that Jahangir elected to stand.

  • Back in 1991 when this match was played, it was a lot of talking about the Australian referees had given Martin the match. I also remember Jahangir giving an interview to Pakistani newspaper, saying Australians had cheated so Martin could win the WO title. After watching the match, there is now doubt the Australian did cheat so Martin could win. There are so many bias decisions in this match that I did go out of counting. Martin has always been known for being second to Jahangir.

  • @criticsare2apenny I knew that.... but..... what's your point?

  • @rizhaq7 One of the esteemed commentators in this match won the British Open 8x and the World Championships once or twice too(!) Pick up a second-hand copy of Jonah`s book "Murder on the squash court" and read the section "morale with muscle". It`s hard to imagine the meek and mild voice you hear here belongs to the same man, but it does

  • I really love this video, you can really see (and hear) how fast these guys are moving and the incredible pace they are playing at. I know a guy who played Jahangir once around this time period and he told me he was more exhausted playing him than anyone else because of the incredible pace he kept and his ability to anticipate the ball.

  • What a great video (again). Thank you!
