hey how do you get these things to work? And what do they create the smoke from? Water? or what? I wanna get one of those and use them for my movies.

They only take a special fog machine fluid. Some of it is good, some isn't. Once it's got fluid in it, plug it in, let it charge up a bit, and push the switch/button/whatever and it blows out stuff that it's stored inside.
Around this time of year, cheap stuff can be found, along with machines sometimes, in hallowe'en sections of places like walmart.

No. Only the special fog machine fluid can be used.
