I saw this live on TV! It was the first one I ever saw with my family! I was so happy to see him assume office. Shame about the entertainers freezing to death out there. It was a horrible day weather wise. Justice Roberts jumped the gun, screwed things up a bit.

Justice Roberts DID mess up. And Obama did know the oath by heart. But it's tradition for the chief justice to be there with him and read it to him. That is the procedure. That's the way it has been done, and that is the way it will be done. He messed it up when he recited the second part incorrectly, which is why Obama stopped and let him correct himself.
