@telescopereplicator Ahh, cool! These old machines are truly beautiful in the sense that so much is controlled by good old mechanics. In a new machine I guess that such protection mechanisms would be completely computerized.

@Majktheman Those are protections discs. They prevent the system mechanically from going over a determined amount of G-force. There are several discs for several levels of G-force. You can hear the man say "5 point 6 G maximum", then you see the disc, marked 5.6 .

Astronauts are pushed into their seats, just like sitting in a fast accellerating car, sitting in a similar position. Bruce is sitting about 90 degrees up, he's not laying down, like astronauts. 4 or 5 G's are much easier to handle when you lie down then when you're sitting up. Lying down the blood stays in your head.
