I think people just get obsessed with one culture, fail to admit it, and then go overboard. My feeling is, they read the Mayan calender right, it was just incorrect. Hey, historians and archeologists are human too. Everyone, no matter how smart, is prone to bias. Personally, I have always admired the Persians.
