Monarchy's are considered Right wing, yet the Founders were extremely anti-Monarchy, but if you believe along the lines of the Founders you are considered Right wing??? If Rush Limbaugh is a "brainwashed Nazi," then why is he so critical of government? A brainwashed minion wouldn't be critical either way, while a fascist would be critical of those they viewed as enemies of their "revolutionary state" (fascists also view themselves as social revolutionaries). Oh, wait. Maybe we have to assume that Obama represents the Weimar Republic (as if). Khmer Rouge is more like it. Speaking of which, why don't we hear as much criticism aimed at the authoritarian left?

Erich Fromm has contributed great works regarding right and left wing authoritarianism. He was a german jew that was ran out of Germany in the 30's (for very obvious reasons) and has done great work since then.

Back to my, " Authoritarianism exists in human nature" comment. "Let no more be said of confidence in man, but BIND HIM DOWN FROM MISCHEIF WITH THE CHAINS OF THE CONSTITUTION.." Thomas Jefferson. I do see Authoritarianism in some of my fellow conservatives. but there's no doubt it exist in "liberal progressives" as well, and i believe more rampant. Individualist, self governing, virtuous people are what stands in the way of the tyrant, be it Hitler, Mao or the old Monarchy's.

Authoritarianism exists in human nature not just in one political party. Our country was designed to protect against the dangers of human nature. Many conservatives have been duped by people like Bush 1 and 2 and even some of the nonsense that comes out of Rush, Beck and others, but the Right in this country are not inherently Fascists, Nazis or authoritarian. What is considered "Right" in America, is radicaly different from what is considered "Right" in Europe.
