The vessel "A Whale," a massive super-tanker modified to skim oil from the surface of the Gulf of Mexico is anchored in the Mississippi River. Once deployed, the ship could suck up more than 20 million gallons of oil fouled water per day. (July 1)

@TheRealPtoni i have never understood why people are proud of the country they live in... like they did anything far greater for their country, than the citizins in other countrys did for theirs.

im proud of what i did. well ok, i didnt help clean up that mess, but i didnt help building that mess in the first place either.

Since the us government supports the people who did this and the government is the source of your country, your proud supports them.

Im proud to be an American but I think we are a bit too proud... so many countries offered to help us clean it up, they had their ships ready to help skim oil.. But if we let them help us it is a sign of weakness so instead we just let the oil destroy our gulf...

burns your nose and irritates your eyes and we're talking about miles from the coast when you have winds out of the south. If you could reduce the amount of oil in the gulf by 98% or more why would you not approve it? I'll tell you who is dragging their feet Bp. If they can collect and accurately measure how much oil they're collecting then that is more money in fines Bp will have to pay. When you disburse or burn the oil they can argue amounts and lessen fines. Lets put this damn thing to work

Maybe its just me but wouldn't it be better to worry about collecting 2,960,000 gal. rather than worry about 40000 gal. I live on the coast even when the oil isn't washing onshore it is ruining and putting peoples livelihood and health at risk. When there is no oil in sight the smell hanging over the entire gulf counties is unbearable at times. The first time I smelled it I thought one of my neighbors were fumigating or spaying weed killer. It has a strong odor like diesel/ oil/ bug spay that

What is the reasoning for all this testing by the Bp & the U.S, it has obviously proven itself if not why would they have built 3 of them? They say it has to be 98% efficient and no more than 2% of the oil can be released back in the gulf after processing. The ship has a 2 million gallon capacity so Bp and the govt. is willing to drag its feet on testing and approval of this vessel because out of those 2 million gallons 40000 MIGHT leak back into the gulf. Not likely but thats their criteria?

When a boat pushes oil aside with it bow then after the boat passes the OIL COMES BACK TO CENTER! ALSO FYI, the reason a fishing boat drags a net 800 feet behind is because FISH ARE AFRAID OF ENGINE NOISE! Of do you thing a fishing boat pushes fish aside with it bow too? FYI, My Jeep leaks oil, my Harley never did.
