"I shook up the world!, I shook up the world!" Anyone who witnessed the young Cassius Clay screaming those words ringside, surrounded by a frenzied media circus, will have that image seared into their mind for life. It was clear that here was someone very special. The "Louisville Lip" was roundly expected to be thrashed and returned whence he came, by the champ Sonny Liston. Instead this was to be the start of the most incredible sporting story both in and out of the ring which would see him beat the odds again and again. Along the way he would change his name from the slave derived "Cassius Clay" to his chosen name, Muhammad Ali. He was the most magnetic sports personality ever, to sport what the Beatles were to music. A proud, intelligent, eloquent and funny black man, unafraid of making principled stands, he arguably did as much for black civil rights as anyone in the political arena. Eventually and sadly, too many fights took their toll on his eloquence, yet his place in history is secure. He shook up the world. These clips of Ali drawn from various sources are underpinned by a reworking of the song "Something Special", a single released by Smoke and myself some years ago. Hopefully it works as a backing to images of this very special sportsman. This forms part of the upcoming CD 'Image Conscious', music loosely hung on enduring news images.

  • IM THE GREATEST...OF AAALLLLL TIMEEESS:~]

  • @uk2usa09 ok, but you cant said tyson have no technique.of ocurse he have. but tyson is much taller than ALi, and tyson just boxed on best way which is good for his body..

  • I feel privileged to have grown up watching Ali from the beginning; I was 13 when he beat Liston in 1964. As fast as Sugar Ray Robinson but 60 pounds heavier. In his prime, from 1964-67 he was the best there ever was. He changed everything; not just boxing, and not just sports. Everything.

  • @uk2usa09 you know nothing about boxing. How could you say Tyson had no technique?? Had head movement, foot speed, hand speed and power with both hands

  • @uk2usa09 Are u crazy man ?Tyson had no technique ? you're completely wrong, he is among the boxers with the GREATEST technique ever !

  • my name is ali .We are all brothers

  • @uk2usa09 waiting to land the right punch and not get hit, and to knock people out with that punch is perhaps THE BEST TECHNIQUE ANY FIGHTER COULD EVER HAVE.

  • wow man .. great greaat work

    Ali rules!

  • @uk2usa09

Ali demonstrated much more skills and qualities than Tyson.

BUT there's no way you can say that Tyson had no technique. It's absolutely wrong.

One example : How do you think he had that outstanding power and speed. You must have technique and coordination to develop that.

  • Muhammad Ali was full of speed, guts, intelligence and he made boxing so exciting.

If you'd talkabout say Joe Louis, Jack Johnson and Sugar Ray Robinson were better, I've to disagree, because there's something about Muhammad Ali, because he was just a top class boxer and that's what he was.
