The LDS church is NOT in the business of looking after every need of the individual. They teach self reliance and responsibility of each man and each family, then they teach to reach to others, in other words, members help each other.
After that point the church will use their welfare system to give assistance where needed to others- but this is done in an 'earn and receive' setting. Families in need put in hours of work to help in the process of receiving their own benefits.
A better plan!

I believe the position of the LDS church is that government should not look after every need of the person; this is the church's job. That's one reason the church has a robust welfare program. We do not give rotting vegetables rather, we willingly give new foods and assist in other needs. Church is responsible members welfare - Government is responsible to govern as the people elect. Or so it should be. If more people had a true and honest faith, government load would diminish considerably.

I think it is a little late. Government has become our master.
President Benson was sure inspired.
The constitution is dead, but we can bring it back to life if we return to these principles. Church member especially need to wise up.
