A quick video on how to service the rear differential on most shaft drive motorcycles. I bought mine a few weeks ago and have zero previous experience working on motorcycles. This was a pretty easy job to do, and saved a good bit of cash on the 600 mile service. Apparently this will need to be done every 8000 miles or so and I see no reason why anyone should be paying more than $20 for something that is this damn easy.

  • i have 2009 honda shadow 750 aero wih drive shaft and you did the oil change on the rear diff., but is there any oil into the drive shaft itself and does it need to be changed and how often??

  • @GligorovDimce The "shaft" portion of the shaft drive is empty, the oil merely fills the "differential" portion of the drive assembly. As far as how often it needs to be changed, the owners manual says once at the 600 mile service, and then every 8K miles. Its pretty easy to do, and for the time it takes and added cost, if your doing your own oil changes, I'd just do it every oil change.. But that's me.

  • @Morndenkainen ,well thank you very much sir, and yes i will be doing the oil changes and most of the repairs if need.i have spoke with couple of people some of them say the regular oil and filter change should be done every 3000 miles, some say 1000, some say 5000 miles.

whats your opinion on that??? and how often the spark plugs needs to be changed also??

thank you for all the information.

  • @GligorovDimce There are so many variable's to consider that all I can really say is go by what the manufacturer recommends, Its your warranty afterall... If your out of warranty, you can do what you want. Personally, because I want mine to run forever, I'm going to continue changing my oil every 4K and replacing the spark plugs every 8K when I do the lifter adjustments.. Besides, for the cost of maintenance, is it really worth taking a chance being stuck on the side of the road?

  • First Time Viewer, First Time Commenter on your posts. Love the videos but I have a question on this one.

OK on the it says "USE HYPOID GER OIL SAE80 but your using Valvoline Limited Slip Dura Blend Synthetic Blend SAE 80W-90 Gear Oil 1 U.S. QT./.946 Liters. For a moron like myself is that Oil your putting in Hypoid Gear Oil?

  • @Griffin2111 enDOTwikipediaDOTorg/wiki/Gear_oil That link should tell you more than you probably care to know. Just be sure to type the website right since youtube wont allow it to post otherwise.
