This is a companion video to an article explaining what I've been practicing the past few seasons -- my personal opinions on how to become a more versatile carver. Read the article at:

http://www.bomberonline.com/articles/carving_ranges_of_movement.cfm

Music (since so many are asking) is by Blackalicious, from the "Blazing Arrow" album. Track name: "Nowhere fast".

  • Carving is just riding on the edge -- there are different styles, with different ways to initiate the turns and rely on the body position... Check the "welcome center" at bomberonline com, lots of good info there.

  • When you're doing the triple turns - what's the sidecut radius of that board you're using? I feel like if I did that on my 9m slalom board I would eat it :)

  • @LineatusSutaenil I've done those on anything from 8 to 13m sidecut boards. The trick is to quickly switch edges, even on small SCR boards it feels like riding in a straight line.

  • one of the most useful videos i've seen on youtube, thanx man.

  • @martinenn Glad you liked it -- thanks! I'm curious if you had a chance to read the article on snowycolorado? The video was meant as an illustration to the article...

  • Dude my F2 board is a 172 and its at 65 front 60 back I believe, whats your setup? I'm think about buying a new slalom board, I'm leanin towards a Kessler setup with maybe Catek bindings, I already got my boots, what do ya think?

  • There are so many options that it's hard to say what's right for you. Kessler makes great boards, but if you're not racing you can probably do almost just as well with boards from Prior or Donek. Check bomberonline store for some ideas. I haven't ridden Catek bindings, but I'm sure they're good. I like Bomber Trenchdiggers and Ibex Speed bindings.

  • @snowytom and also if i was just starting out what do you recommend that is like cheap but perfect for beginners?

  • @snowytom I've never tried this before i was just wondering, if you have snowboarded for a while does it make this 10x easier?

  • What type of board is good for carving?

  • @snowytom ...forgotten alot of the technique involved. I just went with what worked for me. I always have a big problem with boot overhang though, which means i can never get really full angulation carves. Also, can i ask what kind of material you would recommend for dampening/riser? I figure it will elevate the binding a bit which might solve a bit of the bootout problem.

  • @snowytom I've found those triple turns are all about an ankle movement. I've done them before but they require really consistent gradual slopes i find with my board or else i build up way to much speed and have to skid a bit to bleed speed. I find they're all about the ankles, i keep my hands clenched behind me. I'll have to read all the Bomberonline articles again before this season because last season was only my first season carving and i really got the hang of it but i've probably...

  • if you are looking for great boards for more freedom get a forum or K2 or berton

  • The music is by blackalicious or at least the mc from the group. Cool song

  • pretty chill music

  • When I saw you fall that first time I was all like, "Damn, and you were doing so good."

But that was awesome. Once I start riding I'm going to you for tips.

  • i just learned snowboarding a few days ago
