On May 24th eight activists scaled and occupied the 450 foot Fisk coal plant in Chicago and painted "Quit Coal" on the smokestack. That same day, another team of activists blocked a coal barge headed for Chicago's Crawford coal plant. More people live near Fisk and Crawford than any other coal plants in the country. These two plants are responsible for over 40 premature deaths every year. For a decade, local community members in Chicago have been fighting this injustice and demanding their right to clean air. @ben250f all of the power generated by this plant and the Crawford Plant are sold out of state - none of it powers anything in Chicago.

If you really could shut down the coal plants, do you plan to leave Chicago without electricity? How many would that kill? Do you know how many people die from heat exhaustion? If you did propose alternatives such as nuclear energy, then that has a much more deadly potential to consider. If you were to try solar or wind and actually have the capacity, it still wouldn't be reliable unless stored (expensive and hazardous). Are you proposing they rebuild the plants somewhere else? Who would fund?

Because Chicago is my home says one of these professional protesters. Funny, but not ONE of the female protesters on the stack that day were from Chicago. Not one. Google it.
These are lies. Just like the lies about how these plants supposedly cause asthma. Experts from the Chicago Health Department have refuted that claim. Don't believe what you are hearing here. They do not deserve your plaudits.

Idk sometimes I think there's no stopping the Old World Disorder and now we have another nuclear disaster out of Ft. Calhoun Nebraska nuclear plant which occured on or around June 6, 2011 & still ongoing. Hardly any1 knows because of the news blackout as usual. So proud of everyone involved! What was done was done for the community of Pilsen. They have been fighting these coal plants long before there have been Youtube videos about it and they deserve all the support we can give. This is the latest in a long line of actions highlighting the cycle of sacrifice and protest in that neighborhood. And it doesn't hurt how hot that Greenpeace spokeswoman is either!

90% of ANY US President's job is to protect Capitalism above all and reduce any limits (i.e. environmental or worker protections) on it.

@AnotherWayFilms Capitalism has nothing to do with it. Obama is not a Capitalist, is he? Yet he has loaned billions to other countries to drill deep water wells and build refineries. That certainly doesn't sound like one that is so concerned with the environment. Does it?
China is setting up to drill off the coast of Florida. Yikes!
My point is, I'm all for protecting our environment, wildlife and keeping pollution down. Yet there seems to be a hypocrisy here.
