Meet Wilson! He was born approximately 4/1/11. His life may have started with a mom and siblings, but then something terrible happened along the way. Wilson was found on the side of the road in a box at about 2 weeks old. One of his eyes was matted shut. After cleaning it, it didn't look right. After a check up with the vet, it was determined that his eye did not develop correctly and will never see from it. It looks like a little baby blue diamond shining at you. It doesn't seem to bother him. He acts like a normal eight week old playful kitten. As his eyes grow, and if it starts to bother him, he may have to get it removed. Wilson has had his first shots, and is FeLV negative. However, he did test positive for FIV. FIV is spread from cat to cat through deep contact, such as serious biting and scratching, usually during a fight. It is not transmitted between cats by sharing meals, litter, or mutual grooming. Wilson probably acquired it from his mom, as it can be passed from mother to kitten. The vet advises another test in 4 months to see if his body has flushed out the virus and hopefully will come back negative. In stable households FIV positive cats can co-exist with FIV negative cats for years without any spread of the virus, but if he still tests positive at that time, we feel it would be best for him to be placed as an only cat (the virus will not affect canines, or humans, so doggie friends are ok!) or with other FIV positive cats.

Right now Wilson can't even play with the other kittens in his foster home because he has to be kept separated from them. His foster mom plays with him as often as she can, but his best friend is his stuffed Garfield, who he clings to constantly! And despite all the challenges he has already faced in his very short little baby kitten life so far, he remains a very happy, playful & trusting and CUTE kitten!

So if you have a FIV positive cat that needs a possible FIV positive friend, please contact CAAWS.org to see if Wilson could be that friend!
