I was fortunate enough to have my big brother allow me to tag along with him to a Procol Harum concert way back in 1972. Never forgot this song. Absolutely brilliant to hear it performed live! Great post and thanks! ~K. St. King

Une musique superbe, qui souligne cruellement la déchéance des années 2000. Les compositeurs des groupes mythiques des années 60 étaient des musiciens accomplis, admirateurs des Maîtres classiques (Bach pour Procol Harum). Ce slow est probablement le plus beau de ce groupe mythique, avec A whiter shade of pale, inspiré par l'Aria de la Suite n°3 et du Choral du Veilleur BWV 140. Quand le Moderne rejoint le Classique, avec un égal respect.

@WeirdStyler I am hopeful for the future as another generation recocgnizes the beauty of musical diversity. Folks like us, though a generation or more apart are Musical soulmates. just listen...music such as this moves the spirit.it's still happening...the greater part of society just seems to be over looking it.It's in the small clubs & bars....the passion for creativity and that what touches one soul to be shared with many others.

@steele917 right now, there is a poor musical diversity, unless you dig it out yourself _as a listener, you will rarely be presented with something else than these repetitive pop-hitters_ but I do think it will change; in fact, I think the change has begun. Much to my pleasure, as the radio has turned to be my enemy since I have gained a musical taste of myself. I seek out music that is different and qualitative like this, and I must admit I envy your generation just a bit, for being there..

How often could you say that a rock song was truly "evocative" ... of a time or a place or a feeling ... to the degree "A Salty Dog" is? Procol Harum did something special here, and recognition of that achievement is well-earned.

We did not hear this gem as much as we should have, in 1969. Commercial AM radio was still wearing out A Whiter Shade Of Pale, as was required by the masses. Procol Harum released 9 superb albums but most people imagine that Whiter Shade was their only song. Pity!!

This can be the very witness. That The late 60's and early 1970's had the greatest diversity of music. This very song played along side straightforwarrd rockers, I remeber when such songs came on the radio, we stopped for a bit. No, never a part of the "HIT FACTORY". Good honest music that was purchased by the masses that listened to "FM' radio. thank goodness all of the time period was recorded. Our generation, I predict, will be a bright spot observed many centuries from now...
