Spanish flamenco-pop and rumba oriented music had been around for a while, but became extremely known throughout more recently through a rising trend in popularity stemming from the publicity for the Barcelona Summer Olympics of 1992.
This uplifting music with it´s compelling rhythms, virtuoso guitar technique & instantly recognizable vocal phrasings, melts into something brand-new in the language of the sun. This is the Gipsy Vagabonds

The birth of the band is an interesting story of the coming together by fate. The intention was to present a "one-of" special event, when, in 1991 some Spanish and Hungarian musicians got together for a jam-session as the Finale to the annual Flamenco Festival, the "Feria de Cordoba". On the spur of the moment, they decided to play "The Boxer" - a song familiar to all - and the audience were awestruck by a breathtaking new arrangement of this Simon & Garfunkel Classic.
Producer Leslie Mandoki, who regularly works with the cream of the international music scene, includind such notables as Ian Anderson, Jack Bruce, David Clayton-Thomas, Bobby Kimball, Michael Brecker, Pino Palladino, Nik Kershaw, Steve Khan, Al Di Meola, Bill Evans, Anthony Jackson, and Victor Bailey on his personal projects, and such International Superstars of the show-business world as Engelbert Humperdinck, Milwa, Howard Carpendale and Amii Stewart, witnessed the performance. Mandoki, who himself has Hungarian roots, was sufficiently impressed by the performance to invite the musicians to his studio to preserve the feeling of this remarkable performance and record an album. The creative process continues with the recent recording of their fourth album, THE CURRENT ALBUM : Musica Anti Depressiva.

Although on this album will find re-interpretations of such classical musical pieces as Nessun Dorma, Cancion de Allegria or Concert de Aranjuez, as well as two interesting cover versions of old pop classics, their fourth album has become the really interesting musical statement, which has been actually long a-waited for.
Original songs like Esmeralda, Gracias, Matador or Felicidad will let you enjoy the real rumba-pop music of today in the most update form & filled with real mediterannean emotions - completing a picture and creating a link between the traditional gipsy culture and the music of today.

I was working with George in one restaurant on Gran Ccnaria this summer and I can say that he is really great singer, guitar player and also showman. I liked work with him because it was regulary so funny for customers and also for stuff...
